The children watch the goats and smaller herds and are never with out one or more sticks.

Africans regard children as the real wealth of the tribe. Work comes early to african children, and its not at all common to find a Maasai or samburu boy of five or six herding cattle with his father. By the age of nine he is often put in charge of herding the calves , sheep or goats himself.
