The tunics are prepared over several months of work. The Ashaninka men and boys grow cotton in the fields they collect in the forest. After the plants have blossomed, the women and girls pick and spin the cotton into threads with a wooden spindle, before weaving it into a coarse cloth, which become the kushmas.
